Betty Can Now Explain Your Medical Documents

Jan 14, 2026

We’re excited to share a new feature we’ve been building behind the scenes. Betty can now read and explain your medical documents.

That means lab reports, biopsy results, imaging findings, discharge summaries, prescriptions, or any other medical paperwork. You can upload a photo or file to Betty on WhatsApp and get a clear, easy-to-understand explanation in seconds.

It sounds simple, but for a lot of people, this changes everything.

The Problem We’re Solving

Let’s be honest. Medical documents are confusing.

They’re packed with jargon, abbreviations, and clinical language most people were never taught to understand. You leave an appointment with a stack of papers, skim through them later, and somehow feel more anxious than informed.

Often you don’t get the chance to ask questions right away. Maybe you’re waiting on a callback. Maybe it’s late at night and your mind won’t stop racing. So you start Googling and suddenly you’re deep into worst-case scenarios that may not even apply to you.

That gap between receiving information and actually understanding it is very real. And it directly affects how you feel about your health and how confident you feel making decisions about your care.

What Betty Does Now

With this new feature, you can:

  • Take a photo of any medical document with your phone

  • Upload it to Betty via WhatsApp

  • Get an explanation in plain English within seconds

Betty breaks down what the document says, explains what the results usually mean, and helps you understand possible next steps. No dense language. No unnecessary complexity.

It works with lab reports, pathology results, imaging reports, discharge summaries, test results, prescription information, and anything else your healthcare provider gives you.

Why This Matters

You deserve to understand your own health. Full stop.

Healthcare can come with a real power imbalance. Doctors have the knowledge and patients are left trying to piece things together. Your doctor should always be your primary source of medical advice, but they are also busy. Appointments are short. Not everything gets explained clearly. And most questions come up after you’ve already left the office.

Betty helps fill that gap. She’s there when you need her. Late at night. On weekends. At the exact moment you’re ready to understand what that document actually says.

This becomes even more important when you’re facing something serious. Cancer, pregnancy complications, chronic illness, or any major diagnosis can feel overwhelming. In those moments, information really is power.

Being able to quickly understand your test results, pathology reports, or treatment details can help you:

  • Feel more in control

  • Ask better questions at your next appointment

  • Make more informed decisions

  • Ease anxiety by replacing uncertainty with clarity

How We Built This

We didn’t just throw AI at medical documents and hope for the best.

This feature was reviewed and validated by our clinical team to make sure the explanations are accurate, responsible, and genuinely helpful. We tested it across different document types, image quality levels, and even handwritten notes to make sure it works in real-world situations.

The goal was simple. Build something that actually helps, not something that creates more confusion.

Real Examples

Here’s what this looks like in real life.

Scenario 1: Lab Results
You get your blood work back and see rows of numbers with reference ranges. You’re not sure what matters or whether to worry. You upload the document to Betty and get a clear breakdown like, “Your cholesterol is slightly elevated, which often means…” followed by context and what you might want to ask your doctor.

Scenario 2: Pathology Report
You’ve had a biopsy and receive a multi-page report full of medical terms. You upload it to Betty and get a straightforward explanation of what the findings usually mean and what next steps commonly look like.

Scenario 3: Medication Information
You’re starting a new medication and have questions about side effects or interactions. You upload the information sheet and Betty explains what to watch for and when it’s important to contact your doctor.

What Betty Can’t Do. And Why That Matters

Betty is not a replacement for your doctor.

She can’t diagnose you. She can’t recommend treatments. She can’t replace medical advice from a qualified healthcare professional.

What she can do is help you understand the information you already have so you can have more productive conversations with your doctor and feel more confident in your care.

The Bigger Picture

This feature is part of Nayara’s broader mission to support people through their health journeys with clarity, information, and compassion.

We started by focusing on cancer patients because we know how overwhelming that experience can be. But the need for clear understanding applies to every health situation.

Whether you’re managing a chronic condition, recovering from surgery, navigating pregnancy, or facing a new diagnosis, having access to clear explanations at any time can make a meaningful difference.

How to Use It

Using it is simple:

  • Open WhatsApp and message Betty

  • Take a photo of your document or upload a file

  • Send it

  • Read your explanation

No complicated setup. No waiting for an appointment. No feeling awkward about asking basic questions.
